I am just too fond of my childhood memories. Being a 90’s kid, we were the explorers. We enjoyed everything that we had in our life. From books to the playground and from friends to relatives, it meant happiness to us.
When I look at my child, I really feel she is missing a lot in her life. Though I am a strict mother and keep limits to her screen time, it happens that somehow she gets access to the smartphones or the TV. And many times a mom like me becomes helpless in this era of smartphones.
I just get happy whenever she does something that I used to do as a child. That includes feeding her doll, playing outdoors, being happy to see her cousins coming home, enjoying traditional food and choosing to play with her father instead of watching a cartoon show.
It gives me immense happiness to see her doing the things that I really used to love doing in my childhood. And I really felt that happy happy again when it rained for the first time here in Mumbai. My little munchkin asked me to take her out in the rains and she just threw away her umbrella and started dancing in the rain.
I was so overwhelmed with her joy of dancing in the rains that tears of happiness rolled down my cheeks. I just forgot everything and joined her to double the joy. We got wet and enjoyed the rains of Mumbai. People passing by were looking at us and I did not notice if they even laughed at us or not. But who cares? When the daughter is enjoying the rains and the mother is reliving her childhood through her own child, how could I miss that opportunity to get back to the childhood memories?
We were unstoppable till the time those rains stopped. And finally, it had to stop. We came back home. Shivering and laughing. That joy of dancing in the rains is incomparable for sure.
We took a warm shower. I made a coffee for myself and warm milk for her. I roasted some corn cobs and we sat at the French window and the rains started again to pour down.
That first rains, that earthen aroma, coffee with bhutta and a happy mom-daughter duo; what else is needed for a great rainy evening?
And after a while, I got back to my assignment.
While surfing the net I found a site named Happyzozo.com, and was so glad to find this sketch immediately after the lovely rainy evening.
