ACT II Popcorn – Popcorn is one of my favorite snacks. It is a whole grain snack and so very good for health. And slowly it became a favorite of my daughter too.
I started making ACT II popcorn at home, just because it was very simple to make. But I never ever looked at many other aspects of these packaged foods. I was never so happy with ACT II popcorn. But preferred it as there was no other option available in the market.

My disappointment was because, whenever I purchased ACT II popcorn packets in bulk and kept them at home; they would not pop after a few days’ time. Though the expiry date was months away, many times the entire packet’s content would go unpopped.
But I kept ignoring this until I purchased my last pack. The usual flavors would come with Palm oil. So this time I got the Butter Delight flavor.
When I opened the pack, it was loaded with butter (I thought so). I literally had to squeeze out that liquid fat. I don’t know if was it loaded with this much butter. Never witnessed this with any other flavors.
I went to check the ingredients, I was shocked to read that there was not even 1% butter used in the whole pack. It was all palm oil only. Butter was just at the flavor.
The corn is not of good quality again, many months before the expiry date also the corn kernels remain unpopped.
When I squeezed out that oil out of the pack, I could get more than half a bowl of oil from a 150 gm party pack.
The pack contains no nutritional value too. 100 gm of ACT II popcorn contains 602 calories and 42 grams of fats which is a lot more than a toddler needs.
Conclusion: I regretted giving this packaged popcorn to my little one. It did no good for her health. Instead, she was eating unwanted flavors and fats.
Solution: Popcorn is very much healthy for adults and kids. But they are healthy when made freshly with real ingredients.
I tried making a batch of loose corn kernels, and they turned out to be too good. It required a minimal amount of groundnut oil and some salt. Additionally, none of the kernels remained unpopped.

And I stopped getting this rubbish in my house now, for the sake of my child’s health.

Act 2 Popcorn is infamous for the no nutritional value and loads of unhealthy oil it is made of. The ones that can be microwaved in the packet itself, are worse.

Very True, Shilpi. I had tried microwave ones, only once. I don’t use my microwave very often so used to buy cooker variety. But the end result is both are just bad worse and worst. and extremely expensive too

Yes ..i too had a same experience…i substituted popcorn to makhana instead …which is much healthier and easy to make.

Yes Tejaswi, Makhana is anytime the best snack option. But if you make popcorn at home with all the real ingredients, then they are super healthy too.

Oh interesting! Popcorn is my favorite thing to eat ever. (I dont give it to my kids yet because I feel they are too young and I’ve read too many articles regarding popcorn and choking in little kids.) But I have never thought to open up the packet and see how *awful* it is for you lol. I’m glad I read this post!
I do make my own popcorn but have been searching for a good oil to use with it. Any specific oil you recommend?

It is disgusting what companies put in our food and all the work is on us to research and discover it. Avoiding packaged foods is so hard but so worth while for the kids and the adults.

I’m not a huge popcorn fan, but we just learned that small kids shouldn’t have popcorn. I had no idea that they don’t recommend it until after 5… My 15 month old has been fine, but who knew.
admin says
There are chances of choking. Else popcorn is whole grain. and good to have in a limited quantity

My son loves popcorn but I never really tried any brands. I’ll probably try to also make our own.

Same here, now I prefer making our own popcorn.
