Marathi Cinema and TV serials have been creating the right kind of buzz for a decade. Now, it is Marathi web series that are making a splash now. So far, I pretty much restricted myself to watching English and Hindi web series. But for a change, I decided to watch something different and check out Date With Saie. I am glad I did that!
To the uninitiated, Sai Tamhankar is a much loved and popular actress of the Marathi film industry. Her performances in Duniyadaari, Sanai Chaughade, Vazandaar, and YZ have astonished Marathi audience. She made a successful transition in Bollywood with Hunterrr in a bold yet beautiful role.
Taking a cue from her successful real life, Date With Saie is a thriller series that revolves around Sai Tamhankar’s life as a celebrity. Playing herself in the series, the series shows the challenges of being a celebrity in a digital age.
Saie’s life as a celebrity, her fan following and the dark side of the glamorous life; everything is plotted precisely in the story. In 9 episodes, writer and director Dnyanesh Zoting successfully keeps the audience engaged from start to the end. The story doesn’t lose its grip till the end and the director ensures that you never feel like clicking the forward button while watching this Marathi web series.
I was quite hooked to the central idea of the series – When a dream becomes an obsession, it can be fatal for other people.
Basically, Date with Saie gives rise to a combination of many emotions throughout its run. I felt the thrill and have laughed at many moments. There’s even an incredibly emotional scene that made me reach out for tissues.
Double thumbs up for Saie Tamhankar for picking up such a different series. I have not come across any show like this yet. Also, Saie’s performance in the series blurs the line between acting and reality, making it a treat to watch.
Talking about Rohit Kokate, he plays it like a pro and nowhere performs less than Sai. Known for his remarkable role in the movie Kaul, Kokate’s dual personality in the series left me puzzled, intrigued and frightened of him. The switch between the sophisticated Himanshu and the cuss word spewing Raghunath gives his character a sinister feel.
As for supporting actors, there are many prominent names from the Marathi film industry that make an appearance in the series such as Ravi Jadhav, actor Amey Wagh, Parna Pethe, and Girija Oak. So, Marathi fans can rejoice!
Overall, Date with Saie delivers a one-of-a-kind experience that you must check out right away. I am sure you will love it, just like I did.
