The holiday season provides so many opportunities to spend time with your family. Playing board games after dinner, baking gingerbread houses with the kids or singing Christmas carols by the fireplace.

14 Best Christmas Traditions For Your Family

Take a look at this article and plan a fun Christmas dinner with your family!

Best Christmas Traditions For Your Family

Make A Gingerbread House

It’s a fun tradition to make a gingerbread house as a family during the Christmas season. Kids of all ages will enjoy doing this activity – but it can be pretty messy! You should have plenty of baking supplies and your recipe on hand. If you want your house to stick together properly, you’ll also need syrup or royal icing.

Bake Christmas Cookies

Making Christmas cookies with your family will also create wonderful memories. When you bake with your kids, you can try out some new recipes or make your own! Before trying something new, check to see if any members of your household are allergic to it. Be prepared to have flour all over your kitchen floor as well!

Play Games After Dinner

A fun and relaxing activity you can do with your family after a big meal is always appreciated. It is one of our favorite Christmas traditions to play board games! Whenever we’re waiting for dessert, we enjoy playing games like Monopoly and Yahtzee. They make us laugh and pass the time.

Sing Carols Around The Fireplace

You can also sing carols around the fireplace with your family during the Christmas holiday. Making some memories or celebrating a special occasion this way is a great idea. Pick out a favorite song and sing it with the whole family. It will be a special moment you will remember forever!

Watch A Family Christmas Movie

It’s fun to watch a Christmas movie with your family during the holidays. It doesn’t matter if you find a new release or a classic that everyone knows! Elf is one of our favorite holiday movies to watch around Christmas time. A Miracle on 34th Street is the movie for you if you want something more serious.

Give Gifts To The Kids From Santa Claus

During the holiday season, we should include Santa, who plays a big role in our Christmas traditions. On Christmas Eve, we always leave out cookies for Santa, but if you have young children in your family who have not yet understood the whole Santa concept, you can leave them a small gift to open in the morning. Unexpected presents are always fun, but they will appreciate it, even more, knowing who left it!

Take A Family Photo By The Tree

Our favorite tradition at Christmas is to take photos by the tree. Every year, our family takes a photo to remember how much our kids have grown. This tradition has been passed down through several generations. As an added bonus, it’s also a great way to capture some special memories with your spouse or loved ones who could not be there on Christmas!

Leave Santa Milk And Cookies

Traditions such as Santa milk and cookies are very important. Santa has been known to enjoy cookies for decades, so baking some from your own kitchen is sure to bring a smile to his face. It’s hard to imagine anyone not wanting a nice glass of milk every year after coming down the chimney?

Don’t Forget The Carrots For Rudolph!

Don’t forget to give Rudolph carrots too! Get some from the market. Santa has a healthy snack to eat while he is delivering gifts all over the world, so we love leaving him a few extra cookies!

Countdown With An Advent Calendar

We love Advent calendars as a tradition at Christmas time! Every year, we look forward to getting a new one and marking off each day as it approaches the 25th. Online or in local stores, you can find an advent calendar that would make a great gift if you don’t already have one.

Elf On A Shelf

Elf on the Shelf can also be a fun tradition! If you keep him hidden, you’ll be able to watch him doing mischief around the house or sneaking out of his hiding spot to leave notes for everyone each day. It’s a great activity to do with your family and really sets the mood for the season!

Decorate The Christmas Tree

Christmas traditions include decorating the tree, one of the most important aspects! We enjoy adding new decorations each year to our old decorations. In addition to helping us select ornaments for their trees, the kids also enjoy picking out ornaments for themselves.

Honor A Loved One On Christmas

In addition, I always enjoy remembering people who cannot celebrate the holidays with me. On Christmas Day, we like to leave out an ornament or decoration that was meaningful to them and then talk about them at dinner. While it’s a bit sad sometimes, it’s great to be reminded of them over the holidays.

Read Christmas Fairy Tales

As part of our family traditions, we read Christmas fairy tales. Every year, we enjoy reading our favorite books from years gone by, making new memories as we go. In addition, having the option of picking a familiar one or choosing something brand new means that you will always have something special!

Conclusion

Thank you for taking the time to look at these ideas. With all of the traditions that need to be followed around Christmas, it can be easy to become overwhelmed.
